Sandwich Tern b copy.jpg

The terns will be back soon! But which species will show up first? Find out here!

Phil Gower March 1, 2021

Usually, Sandwich terns are the first of our terns to show up in the Spring. They tend to arrive late March and although, like most of our Sterna terns, they are mainly coastal birds, they will pass over the country and can turn up at inland sites during this period.

Look out for these large black billed (with yellow tip) birds. Their calls are loud and distinctive.
